My Story

My Mission

My name is Rohan Sharma, and I am a professional speaker and suicide attempt survivor from the suburbs of Philadelphia. I began public speaking subsequent to serving a 23-month jail sentence after pleading guilty to an armed robbery that took place in the fall of 2011. Before this, I was a medical student at Drexel University College of Medicine. However, due to the fact that my Bipolar Disorder was misdiagnosed, I was given the wrong medication which in turn induced a psychotic episode that left me incarcerated in the Philadelphia prison system.

Since then, I have not only been able to piece my life together but have also discovered my passion for public speaking. I have shared my story at UPenn, NAMICon, and Temple University, among many other schools and conferences. While in jail, I also learned to express myself through poetry and rap, and I now create music under the artist name "Rx Mundi". My songs have reached over 55,000 streams worldwide, and  you can listen to my latest music at www.rxmundi.com, as well as all major streaming platforms (Spotify, Apple Music, etc).

I have also documented my journey in a memoir published in 2019 titled, “A Very Thin Line: My Journey With Bipolar”. Last but not least, I was a guest speaker for NAMI’s “Ending the Silence” and “In Our Own Voice” programs for 4 years, which is where I began my career as a speaker.

Ever since I was incarcerated, I have vowed to do what I can so that no one else has to endure what I went through. By using my platform to empower students, I am doing my best to ensure kids do not make the same decisions I made, and that they know help is available. Above all, I wish to inspire youth to reach out when they need help so that they do not let their mental health challenges interfere with their lives.

I am on a mission to empower students so that they view reaching out as a sign of strength and not a weakness. Lastly, I hope to inspire students of all backgrounds to follow their passions in life, and not let fear stop them from living their dreams.
